Behind the Scenes: Transforming My Garage Gym Into a Power Skating Training Hub

Transforming my garage into a functional workout space has been one of the most rewarding projects I’ve tackled this year. Like many of us, I wanted to keep things affordable, so I started simple: a fresh coat of paint. It’s such an easy way to liven up the space and make it feel new & clean. I also added professional lighting—this gave the gym a real studio vibe, which has made filming workout videos for Stryde.Hockey a breeze.

Now that my gym is fully set up, I’ve added a few “luxury” items that I can’t live without:

  1. Stryde.Hockey Power Skater – This is, without a doubt, my go-to training tool. It’s helped me regain strength and skating form (post hip surgery then again postpartum), and I use it almost every day. Yes, EVERYDAY! Just 10 minutes can make a world of difference in not only skating form but overall strength. Do the PowerSkater work here.

  2. Cold Plunge (DIY) – We decided to go the DIY route with my cold plunge, and it’s been incredible for recovery. If you’ve never tried cold therapy, it’s a game-changer for sore muscles and honestly, even more of a game changer for my mental health. Check out how I did mine here.

  3. Dumbbells and Rack – I’ve found that having an organized space makes all the difference in getting in a quick workout. We invested in a good set of dumbbells and an organizational rack, which has been key to keeping my garage clutter-free. This rack is the one we have.

  4. Sauna Blanket – Recovery is just as important as training, and my Lifepro sauna blanket has become my secret weapon. It’s like having a spa session right at home—perfect for relaxing after a tough workout. You can find the one I use here.

  5. Additional Recovery Tools – My Theragun (this is an expensive option) and foam roller are essential for keeping my muscles loose and ready for the next session. These little tools make a big difference in my recovery routine.

If you’re looking to upgrade your own workout space, I highly recommend adding a TV to stream your favorite training programs. I use mine to follow along with the Stryde.Hockey workout series, and it makes training so much easier and more engaging. Currently there are workouts here on YouTube, but just wait - coming this winter you will have access to entire workout series’ … they’re so good!

With three kids (Jaxyn, Milly, and baby Bo), things have been a little crazy lately! Between hockey, gymnastics, school, and baby needs, balancing it all has been tough but worth it. If you’ve noticed my content has been a little sporadic , that’s why! I’d love to share more with you over on Instagram—come say hi and let me know if you’d like to see what I’ve been up to! 🏒💪
